Tracey Butcher

At Wildlands Network:  As Wildlands Network’s Outreach Director, Tracey works with a wide diversity of audiences. Her rich work experience coupled with her artistic talents gives her a great foundation in this role for the organization.

She is responsible for a multitude of fundraising projects, event coordination, working with major donors, and developing the organization’s “Zoos in Conservation” program. As part of our communications team, she creates materials, printed and web based, along with presentations, all of which have dramatically shaped the organization’s image. Her passion for conservation and experience with the public, both at Zoos and through a private safari business, has helped garner new support for our work.

Off the Clock: Because of an aversion to winter, Tracey is based in Cocoa, Florida but dreams about maintaining a second home in Wyoming or Montana, where her heart is. When not working, Tracey devotes time to her photography passion, painting, an insane Jack Russel terrier (whose name no one can pronounce), and digging in her garden. You can see some of Tracey’s images at: www.traceybutcher.com.

Background: Tracey holds a BS degree in zoology from University of Florida and did post-graduate research in Zimbabwe studying the effects of artificial water supplies on large water-dependent mammals and range condition. Prior to her career with Wildlands Network, Tracey worked in Zimbabwe for ten years in community-based natural resource management and was part owner of a safari operation.  She worked as development director at Florida’s Brevard Zoo and at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay as zookeeper and animal presenter.
