Help Protect the Threatened Vail Pass Wildlife Linkage!
The Wildlands Projects vision for a Spine of the Continent Megalinkage will become successful only if the regional Wildlands Networks that make up this megalinkage become reality. The Southern Rockies Wildlands Network is a critical component in this process, and protection of its Vail Pass Wildlife Linkage is a top priority for achieving connectivity both in the Southern Rockies and along the Spine of the Continent. Your help is needed now!
What You Can Do:
- Contact the Colorado Division of Transportation (CDOT) and ask the agency to heed the recommendations of CDOTs own biologists and of the ALIVE program to build the necessary overpass, underpass, and fencing at Vail Pass to ensure survival of the imperiled lynx.
- Contact the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and urge the agency to partner with CDOT on the ALIVE program to help ensure the survival of our wildlife by preventing habitat fragmentation along I-70.
- Contact our regional partner group, Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project, and volunteer to assist with Vail Pass Wildlife Linkage protection projects. Call 303-258-0433 or email jeancsmith@uswest.net
- Send a Letter-to-the Editor to your local newspaper promoting Vail Pass Wildlife Linkage protection. Focus on the threats to wildlife connectivity posed by Interstate 70, off-road vehicle use, and ski area expansion.
- See the Wildlands Project website (www.wildlandsproject.org) for more information; call 720-565-8630; email rockymountain@wildlandsproject.org
